BONUS: “America’s Race Weekend”
Clearly torn between its CART and IRL licensing deals, Racing Champions issued this car as a commemoration of Memorial Day race weekend in 1996. While the Indianapolis 500 went on as always, CART established its own 500-mile race in Michigan, the U.S. 500. The conflict would last only one year as a disastrous CART event would lead that series to move its Michigan round to a later date in the 1997 season.
