Former NASCAR Cup driver and team owner D.K. Ulrich turns 74 today. A veteran of 273 starts as a driver, Ulrich fielded Ernie Irvan in his first two full Cup seasons in 1988 and 1989, Rick Mast in roughly half of the schedule in 1990, and Ted Musgrave as a rookie in 1991. Ulrich may be best known to casual fans, however, as the owner-driver who stepped aside for Richard Petty at the 1986 World 600 when the seven-time champion failed to qualify.

Pictured are Stock Car Miniatures’ replicas of Irvan’s 1988-89 ride (left) and two of Mast’s 1990 cars (center and right).
